How To Get A Healthy Glow That Lasts

Along with our brand new Sunny Trio I wanted to give you some tips to help you get the most out of our non toxic sunny products!

I would like to start off by saying that we believe in a healthy approach to sunning. The sun is important to expose yourself to, in a healthy way. This is my opinion. You know your skin best, if you feel you are getting red remove yourself from the sun!

Back to the fun stuff!

Here are some of the ways to achieve that healthy glow!

Starting from the inside.

Hydrating properly and the food you eat actually play a huge role in how your skin reacts to the sun.

But first, hydration. Drinking an adequate amount of water daily will promote a longer lasting, more even tan. Something I am really big fan of when it comes to drinking water is adding trace minerals back into my water. This really helps you actually hydrate your body rather than just drinking the water and peeing shortly after because that water alone wasn’t doing much other than quenching your thirst. Trace minerals are essential for the body and can help replace electrolytes lost during physical activity.

I use this one, Life Source Fulvic Acid + Trace Minerals. (this is an affiliate link)

Food can play a big role in how our skin reacts to sun exposure. Some studies suggest that just by eating certain foods you can stimulate melanin production. Guess what types of foods! Mainly fruits and veggies and few others. Let me give you some examples.

Beta-carotene

Found in yellow and reddish-orange fruits and vegetables, carrots, spinach, and radicchio, beta-carotene is a precursor to melanin and can help limit the harmful effects of UV light.

Lycopene

Found in red foods like tomatoes, peppers, cherries, and watermelons, lycopene is another micronutrient that can help with tanning.

Vitamins A, C, and E

Found in foods like pistachios and fish, these vitamins can help you achieve a tan.

Omega-3 and 6

Found in foods like almonds, milk, and blue fish, these micronutrients can help keep your skin young and tonic.

Along with the good, the bad tends to follow. Let’s talk about it. Some things that we eat that may not be so great for your skin during sun exposure. Consuming PUFA’s like seed oils and soybean oils, could not only cause harm to your overall health, but in this case, could actually cause your skin to burn. In my opinion the sun is natural. The artificially added “ingredients” that end up in most foods in the grocery store, are not. While eliminating seed oils all together would be amazingly beneficial to all of our overall health, let’s be honest. This is not a place of judgement, and in our home we do not shy away from all unhealthy snacks, all the time. A healthy balance is a healthy approach. Just saying to be mindful about putting excessive amounts of overly processed garbage in your system for every meal and/or snack.

Onward!

Now that we’ve discussed things that can help you get a healthy tan from the inside let’s talk about what you can do to help you get a natural glow, from the outside.

Along with hydrating, it’s important to stay moisturized. Applying lotion daily will not only help your tan sick around longer but it will also help your Sun Block to work more efficiently. If you apply Sun Block to dry skin it could have more of a tendency to be applied unevenly. Leaving you with a splotchy tan.

Speaking of a splotchy tan, let’s talk about exfoliating. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores, and brightens the skin creating a smooth base for better application of our tanning products. I recommend exfoliating at least once a week.

While at the end of the day the goal is to have healthy skin, right? While each one of us are unique in how our skin reacts with the sun. Some people burn right away, some people never burn. You know your skin best! When you are exposed to the most intense rays of the day, it’s important to apply sun protection of some kind, at some point to avoid burning your skin. Even if your goal is to only tan, apply something that will also protect your skin.

Our Sun Block is an organic option of sun protection. The active ingredient being non nano zinc oxide, which has a larger particle size making it less likely to actually penetrate the skin and be absorbed into the bloodstream. Rather it simply protects you by scattering, absorbing and reflecting the sun’s rays. This Sun Block is 20 SPF. Possibly a slightly higher SPF due to the natural ingredients themselves having SPF qualities. This product will be your new summer BFF! Gentle enough for everyday use! If you’ve used our Body Whip’s your skin is going to feel so moisturized with the added bonus of sun protection.

Timing is everything! For a long-lasting tan, you need to take things slow. So don't be afraid of getting out of the sun and chilling in the shade for a few hours. It’s better to get sun exposure in small increments, more often than to risk sun damage because you sat out in intense sun all-day! While you are in the sun remember to change up your positions. Please don’t roast your skin because you fell asleep! I actually set timers on my phone to help remind myself when it’s time to reapply Sun Block for me and my kids (which is every two hours or more often if swimming or actively sweating) or when to roll over for an even tan. Speaking of timing, please actually wait the 20 minutes after applying Sun Block before you go out into the sun. Yes, that time frame is actually important. This gives the product time for the protective ingredients to create a barrier against the UV rays.

Want to know how to get a healthy tan, fast? Here’s a little secret… pair Sun Block with Sun Goddess and it will help you get a nice deep tan, surprisingly quick! Sun Goddes is our tan accelerator. We always recommend to pair Sun Goddess with Sun Block for a safer tanning approach. Yes you will still tan even if you use Sun Block. The two combined, so good!

Last but certainly not least, aftercare. It is just as important to moisturize your skin after you have been out in the sun all day! This will help you keep that hard earned tan for forever. Maybe not forever but it will make it last longer definitely! FA’s Vitamin Sea is packed full of amazing ingredients that is perfect for the job. Vitamin Sea will restores moisture, help protect against sun damage and overall greater appearance of skin. Also, fun fact Vitamin C helps to neutralize chlorine after swimming. If you want to go down a rabbit whole look into what chlorine can cause. But I’m also not going to stop swimming in pools. So neutralizing it seemed more achievable!

disclaimer: FA encourages a healthy approach to sun exposure.  Repeat exposure of unprotected skin while tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer, and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

When I am say things like healthy glow and healthy tan, it is important that you understand I am referring to the ingredients being of a healthier option. Please be sure you are responsible with your sun exposure.
