The Ultimate Guide to Cleaning Out Your Candle Jar

When it comes time to clean out your candle jar, I have two preferred methods.

The Set & Forget Method

Freeze It!

You simply place your jar in the freezer for a few hours, days, weeks, or whenever you remember you put them in there :) Once you get back to them just remove them from the freezer flip it over and what wax that was left behind should just fall out with a few taps. If there are some stubborn pieces you can use a butter knife the pick them out. **You could even save what remaining wax there was and place in a wax warmer! No waste here. Sometimes the wick base is the trickiest. Using that butter knife again, just pick at it and it will pop out! Once the left over candle wax and wick base has been removed and the jar is at room temp, give the jar a good scrub with warm water and soap. Allow to dry fully and you're all set to upcycle or recycle!

The Speed Clean Method

In a hurry? That's okay I've got you.

Another way to clean you candle jar is to use a shallow double boiler method. You will want to find a shallow pan and place about an inch or two of water inside and place on your stove top. You will then place your used candle jar in the pan with water and turn your burner on low. Stay close by, burner temps may vary (burner temps vary from stove to stove, adjust temp as needed according to your stove). Once the wax is fully melted, using an oven mitt or something to protect your hands, you could pour the excess wax into a mold and make your own wax melt/s, pour right into your wax warmer or if you'd rather, just dispose of it into the trash. Keep in mind whatever you choose to do with the melted wax, be careful. The wax will be HOT!! Bring out that butter knife and scrape out the wick base. Which tends to be relatively when using heat. Once your candle jar is emptied out, use a paper towel to wipe out any excess wax. If you've got any, baby wipes are a candle maker's best friend. They clean off anything I think! Wipe out your jar with a baby wipe and then wash with warm water and soap. Once fully dry you are all set to upcycle or recycle!

Please keep in mind if you are wanting to just recycle your jar it is important to still clean it out. Items that are left dirty really can't be recycled.

I hope you find these methods to be helpful once you have used up your candle!

Remember to speak kindly to yourself :)
